1.4724

Data sheet material 1.4724 / AISI 405

X10CrAlSi13

Ferritic heat-resistant chrome steel

Brief description

The material 1.4724 or Sicromal 9 is a heat-resistant ferritic chromium steel with added aluminium. This material is often used in furnace construction due to its resistance up to approx. 850°C. Due to its increased chromium content, it is more resistant to scaling than the material 1.4713.

Forgeability

Forging takes place between 1150°C and 800°C. This is followed by rapid cooling and heat treatment.

Weldability

The material 1.4724 can be welded using all standard welding processes. However, the workpiece should be preheated to approx. 200°C - 300°C before welding. A low energy density should be selected to avoid coarse grain formation. After welding, stress relief annealing at 750°C - 800°C is recommended.

Machinability

This material tends to smear during machining due to its ferritic structure. Suitable cutting tools and adapted machining conditions should be selected.
