1.4307

Data sheet grade 1.4307 / AISI 304L

X2CrNi18-9

Austenitic corrosion-resistant stainless steel

Brief description

The material 1.4307 or AISI 304L differs from the material 1.4301 due to its significantly reduced carbon content. Nowadays, however, the two materials are generally used as 1.4301/1.4307 is produced with double certification. The double certified material 1.4301/1.4307 can be used if only 1.4301 is required. Conversely, however, this is only possible to a very limited extent and requires prior examination.

Mechanical properties medium
Forgeability good
Weldability excellent
Machinability medium

Special properties

Polishable
Suitable for low temperatures
Can be used up to 550°C

Corrosion resistance

The material 1.4307 is resistant to intergranular corrosion. Due to the low carbon content, no chromium carbides are formed and therefore no chromium-depleted zones. In natural environmental media (water, rural/urban environment), this grade exhibits good corrosion resistance, provided there is no salt content or chlorine concentration. (PREN = 17.5 - 21.1)

Forgeability

The forging process involves heating to approx. 1150°C - 1180°C in order to forge in a temperature range of 1180°C - 950°C. This is followed by rapid air or water cooling. This is followed by rapid air or water cooling.

Weldability

The material 1.4307 can be welded well with and without filler metal. Heat treatment after welding is not normally necessary.
