The high chromium content in turn ensures good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. At higher temperatures, Alloy 800 is characterised by excellent resistance to (alternating) oxidation and carburisation. Its resistance to nitrogen, hydrogen and sulphurous gases is better in an oxidising atmosphere than in a reducing atmosphere. In acidic media such as organic acids or nitric acid, this grade has good resistance, but Alloy 800 is only resistant to a limited extent in hydrochloric and sulphuric acid.

 Mechanical properties
at 20°C

Yield point
Rp0,2
N / mm²

≥ 210

Tensile strength
Rm
N / mm²

≥ 500

Elongation
A5,65

≥ 30%

Modulus of elasticity
kN / mm²

194

 Weldability

The material 1.4876 is easy to weld using conventional welding processes. These include TIG, MIG or manual arc welding. The workpiece should be welded in a stress-free, metallically bright and dirt-free condition. Low heat input, targeted heat conduction and rapid heat dissipation are recommended. The line bead technique should be used. The temperature of the intermediate layers should not exceed 120°C. Annealing colours should be removed immediately after welding, i.e. while still warm, using a stainless steel brush.

 Machinability

Machining should be carried out in the annealed condition. Alloy 800 tends to work harden. Therefore, a low cutting speed and a low feed rate should be selected. The tool should be in constant engagement. A sufficient cutting depth should be selected so that the previously created work-hardened zone can be undercut. To ensure a stable cutting process, heat dissipation should be optimised by using large quantities of suitable, water-based cooling lubricants.

 Cold forming

The material 1.4876 can be cold formed very well, but intermediate annealing should be carried out for heavy cold forming.

 Thermal treatment

 Physical properties

Density
at 20°C
kg/dm³

8,0

Electrical
Resistance at 20°C
(ohm) mm²/m

1,01

Melting range

1350 – 1400°C

Thermal conductivity
at 20°C
W/m K

12,4

Specific
Heat capacity
at 20°C
J/kg K

443

 Markets & Applications

Equipment engineering for high-temperature applications
Chemical and petrochemical industry
Industrial furnace construction
Power plant construction
Hydrogen industry

 Our
Delivery programme

 1.4876
Sheets

Learn more >

 1.4876
Cuts

Learn more >

 1.4876
Steel bars

Learn more >

 1.4876
Tubes

Learn more >

 Frequently asked questions

What is the tensile strength of material 1.4876?

The tensile strength of material 1.4876 is ≥ 500 N/mm².

What is the density of material 1.4876?

At 20°C, the density of material 1.4876 is 8.0 kg/dm³.

 Important note

TEAM EDELSTAHL operates purely as a trading company without technical staff.
